Privacy Policy

The ClarifyBro application ("Service") is operated by ClarifyBro ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

• Email address and password (for email-based registration)
• Display name (optional, during registration)
• Questions you submit to the AI tutor, and optional images you attach to a question

Information collected via Google OAuth:

• Name and display name
• Email address
• Profile photo URL
• Google account identifier

Information collected automatically:

• Login timestamps, IP address, approximate location (city/region/country), and device/browser user agent (login history)
• Which questions you ask and how many, used to count your question credits

Email verification: when you sign up with email and password, we email you a 6-digit code to confirm the address is yours. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) form of the code for 15 minutes, and a record of whether your email is verified. To keep free credits fair, we also keep a normalised form of your email address (for example, without dots or "+" tags) so one inbox cannot open many accounts.

Credit information: your question-credit balance and a record of credits added and used, including the Google Play order number of any credit pack you buy. Payment itself is handled entirely by Google Play Billing — we never receive or store your card details.

3. Data Storage

• Server-side: Account data, login history, question activity, and credit balance are stored in a persistent database for as long as your account exists.
• Client-side: Authentication tokens (JWT) and cached user data are stored in your browser's (or, in the Android app, the device's) localStorage. These persist until you log out or clear app/browser data.
• Passwords: If you register with email/password, passwords are stored as salted hashes, never in plain text.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with the following third-party providers, each with their own privacy policies:

5. Cookies and Local Storage

• The Service uses browser localStorage to store your authentication token and cached user profile.
• Session cookies may be used for the authentication flow.
• You can clear all stored data by logging out or clearing your browser data.

6. Children's Privacy

ClarifyBro is an educational tool designed to help students learn. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

7. Data Security

• Authentication tokens are signed using JWT with a secret key.
• All communications are encrypted via HTTPS.
• Google OAuth ensures we never see or store your Google password.
• While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data stored by the Service.
• Delete your account and all associated data — see our account deletion page for instructions.
• Withdraw consent by logging out and revoking Google OAuth access from your Google account settings.
• Clear local data by logging out (which removes all localStorage entries) or clearing your browser data.

9. Data Retention

Account data, login history, question activity, and credit balance are retained for as long as your account exists, and deleted on request (see "Your Rights" above). Authentication tokens expire after 7 days.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
